Divorce by Facebook

Millions of people use it every day to pass on harmless snippets of gossip to friends and family.
But the message Emma Brady’s husband posted on Facebook could not have been more devastating.
It read: ‘Neil Brady has ended his marriage to Emma Brady.’

Social Networking May Lead to Depression

Too much Facebook makes teenage girls depressed…
The big question is: does your teenage daughter co-ruminate? Please check now, as this is a very serious matter.
Researchers from Stony Brook University have declared that excessive co-rumination–perhaps you would refer to it as “chatting with your friends about your problems”–by text, e-mail and on social-networking sites leaves impressionable teenage girls more prone to anxiety and depression.

Facebook or Face Time?

Retreating behind a digital veil started long before the Internet existed, with the advent of answering machines enabling them to convey information without forcing them to interact.
Facebook provides a constant flow of primarily useless information via short updates from everyone a user knows: a distant cousin is glad he skipped the cheeseburger chowder; a colleague has a new book on sale; a close friend is engaged or newly single; it seems silly and impersonal.
Yet for many users, Facebook somehow remains distinctly personal.

Delete Facebook Friends For a Free Whopper

Facebook’s developer platform has been used for many bad marketing campaigns so far, but this one is actually dead-on perfect.
Fast-food chain Burger King has created “Whopper Sacrifice,” a Facebook app that will give you a coupon for a free hamburger if you delete 10 people from your friends list.
Burger King has put out some interesting campaigns as of late (“Whopper Virgin,” “Subservient Chicken“), but this one makes us laugh because of how it pokes fun at our social-networking obsessions.
“Now is the time to put your fair-weather Web friendships to the test,” the Whopper Sacrifice site explains. “Install Whopper Sacrifice on your Facebook profile, and we’ll reward you with a free flame-broiled Whopper when you sacrifice ten of your friends.”
The funniest part: The “sacrifices” show up in your activity feed. So it’ll say, for example, “Caroline sacrificed Josh for a free Whopper.” Unfortunately, you can’t delete your whole friends list and eat free (fat people everywhere are crying) for a week. The promotion is limited to one coupon per Facebook account.

Party Girl May Land Modeling Contract

Georgina Hobday from Brighton who advertised her 16th birthday party on Facebook resulting in 400 gatecrashers invading her parents million pound home has attracted the model agency which helped to launch Kate Moss’s career and they are keen to sign her up.
Pictures that emerged of the waif-like teenager in various model-esque poses caught the interest of one the country’s biggest model agencies, Storm which is credited with launching the careers of Kate Moss, Lily Cole, Elle Macpherson, Eva Herzigova and Peaches Geldof, and has arranged to meet Miss Hobday.

Premature Harmony

eHarmony Uses Misleading Lesbian Personals Ads on Facebook…

Since the eHarmony segregated gay personals site won’t launch until March 2009…some are wondering what these ads are doing on facebook…

The Pasadena-based dating website, heavily promoted by Christian evangelical leaders when it was founded, has agreed in a civil rights settlement to give up its heterosexuals-only policy and offer same-sex matches.
It must not only implement the new policy by March 31 but also give the first 10,000 same-sex registrants a free six-month subscription.

Obama Wants You, Unless…

There’s a questionnaire Camp Obama is sending to everyone if they’re up for a Presidential appointment. The short story — Obama wants all the cards on the table before he nominates anyone.
The 63 questions prospective nominees must answer are classic; Barack wants to know if the person has sent embarrassing emails, whether that person has been accused of sexual harassment, late in paying child or spousal support or has a Facebook account.
