Tintin Finally Does Tinseltown

“After 25 years, they finally said, `OK, let’s go,'” Rodwell said of the protracted talks with Spielberg. In an interview with The Associated Press, Rodwell said the Hollywood company will go into preproduction for a movie, which should appear in theaters in about two years.

“It’s been a project on our future development plate here for quite a number of years, always with the idea it was something we would like to make,” DreamWorks spokesman Marvin Levy said Thursday.

He emphasized that the film was not in the can yet. “I don’t think we are at that point yet,” Levy said. “It’s premature to say who or when or where.”

It wasn’t clear whether the film would be cartoon animation, computer animation or a movie with actors, or which of the 24 cartoon books of Tintin’s adventures would be picked.

“If movie No. 1 works, we will continue,” Rodwell said.

Talks about a Hollywood movie on Tintin, who saves the lives of countless people and makes sure criminals end up behind bars, have long stalled on financial issues and production questions.

The first plan surfaced just before Tintin’s creator, Georges Remi, aka Herge, died in 1983. Even at that time, Remi, one of the world’s foremost cartoon strip authors, delighted in Hollywood’s interest.

“If Steven Spielberg wants to make a Tintin film I cannot imagine anything better,” Rodwell said of Remi’s thoughts, and he fully realized that a movie adaptation might well change the way Tintin looks.

“Let’s see what he comes up with,” Rodwell said.

Tintin books have sold 220 million copies worldwide and have been translated in 77 languages.

A First Look at the Geyser Tube

Steve Spangler RULES…!!!!!

Our new Geyser Tube toy made it’s first public appearance at the Toy Fair in New York this morning. If you’ve ever tried to do the Mentos Geyser experiment, you know that it’s tough to a handful of Mentos candies into the bottle of soda before it starts to erupt.

The Geyser Tube is a trigger device that holds a stack of Mentos candies directly above the opening of the bottle. Just pull the pin and the Mentos instantly drop into the soda and the soda geyser shoots up through the nozzle at the top of the tube.

Over the past year, we’ve come up with many ways The Geyser Tube attaches to the top of any 2-liter bottle and holdsof sodatrigger device that suspends a stack of Mentos candy above the open bottle of soda. When you pull the pin, the Mentos drop and the erupting soda is funneled updevice that holds

Steve Spangler, a science editor for a Colorado TV station and a toy maker on the side, this week demonstrated his “Geyser Tube” at the Toy Fair in New York. His toy is a plastic tube that can hold nine Mentos candies. A pin holds the candy in place while the tube is screwed to the top of the soda bottle. The opposite end is a narrow opening that acts like a nozzle.

A string is attached to the pin and when pulled, the Mentos plop to the bottom of the bottle, triggering the reaction. The Geyser Tube retails for $4.95 and can be purchased online at Stevespanglerscience.com.

Prescribe heroin to cut crime, says police chief

Heroin should be prescribed to a greater number of addicts in a bid to reduce crime, one of the country’s most senior police officers said today.

Ken Jones, president of the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo), called for the drug to be made available to long-term users so they no longer need to commit crime to fund their habit.

The government announced plans more than five years ago to massively expand an existing scheme which prescribes medical-grade heroin, but the number of addicts on the scheme has remained the same.

Mr Jones, the former Sussex chief constable, told the Independent: “You need to understand there is a hard core, a minority, who nevertheless commit masses of crime to feed their addiction.

“We have to find a way of dealing with them, and licensed prescription is definitely something we should be thinking about.”

The Conservative leader, David Cameron, backed the same idea in 2002, while a member of the Commons’ all-party home affairs select committee and before becoming opposition leader.

A similar proposal was backed by one of Mr Jones’ predecessors as Acpo president, Sir David Phillips, also in 2002.

Diamorphine, which is identical to heroin but produced under pharmaceutical conditions, was prescribed to about 300 addicts by specialist GPs in 2002.

In October 2001, former home secretary David Blunkett said he wanted the system to be expanded and set a target of 1,500 users.

However, the National Treatment Agency (NTA) confirmed today that the number on diamorphine programmes still stands at 300 in England.

Mr Jones added: “I am not in any shape or form a legaliser, but what I am concerned with is that we have to shape up to some tough realities.

“What we need is a cross-party consensus which considers the overwhelming public view to be tough on the roots of drugs, as well as treating its victims.”

Home Office figures show there are about 330,000 problem drug addicts, mainly opiate users.

The heroin market is worth £1.2bn a year in England and Wales, according to the figures.

A Home Office-funded pilot scheme run by the NTA is currently prescribing diamorphine, injectable methadone and oral methadone to 150 addicts, with results due to be published in two years.

Women in the U.S. too tired for sex

It seems American women have a problem with sleep and are not getting enough of it.

According to a poll by the National Sleep Foundation (NFS), mothers who are home all day suffer the most, and the lack of sleep is making women stressed and anxious and is affecting all areas of their lives.

The 2007 Sleep in America poll investigated how sleep habits change throughout a woman’s life and how sleep is affected by lifestyle.

The poll found that 70 percent of women frequently have a problem sleeping, and 60 percent only get a good night’s sleep a few nights a week.

Seventy two percent of working mothers and 68 percent of single working women also suffer from insomnia and are struggling to cope with a lack of sleep.

Poor sleep is associated with poor mood and the majority of women reported being bothered by worrying too much about things.

Kathryn Lee, of the National Sleep Foundation says women’s lack of sleep affects virtually every aspect of their time-pressed lives, leaving them late for work, stressed out, too tired for sex and with little time for their friends.

The survey questioned 1,003 women between the ages of 18-64 and found that women tend to compromise the most important aspects of good health, diet, exercise and sleep when they are trying to juggle the day’s ongoing responsibilities.

When women run out of time, 39 percent also reduced the time they spent with friends and family, 37 percent stopped eating healthily and 33 percent stopped having sex with their partner.

Lee says it is interesting that work is the last thing that women say they sacrifice when pressed for time.

When women don’t get enough sleep most put up with it but 65 percent are likely to drink coffee or caffeinated beverages in order to keep going and instead of going to bed early to make up for the lack of sleep, 87 percent said they watched television in the hour before going to sleep and 37 percent did other activities.

Lee says foregoing healthy lifestyle habits in favour of more time during the day is not the solution and can be detrimental to optimum health and performance.

The poll also found that women who allow children or pets to share their bed have the most disturbed sleep and surprise, surprise, women snore as much as men!

Postmenopausal women appear to have the most sleep problems and frequently use sleeping pills and have the most sleep disorders such as snoring, sleep apnea and restless legs syndrome (RLS).

Many also say their sleep is disrupted by hot flashes or night sweats.

To improve sleep women are advised to avoid caffeine in drinks and chocolate and to also avoid alcohol and nicotine a few hours before bedtime.

Exercise or workouts should be done at least three hours before going to sleep.

A standard relaxing bedtime routine will also help as will regular sleep times, a dark, cool and quiet bedroom with comfortable pillows, sleep surface and coverings.

The NSF released the poll findings as part of its 10th-annual National Sleep Awareness Week campaign.

Man claims to have made love to over 30 cars

Website shows how to really pop the trunk

A British man has confessed to making love to over 30 different cars and setting up a website to explain his techniques to the masses.

It was British tabloid The Sun which today lifted the bonnet on people who love cars – a little too much.

It quoted the story of Chris, apparently a 38 year old from the West Country, who claims to have made the beast with two boots with everything from a Peugeot 205 to his current squeeze, a Jag XK8. Donald is not afraid of exploring the boundaries of his sexuality. He’s also had brief flings with two motorboats and a jetski.

Donald tells the paper that a nice car was a “feast for the sense…smells, feelings, and tastes.”

Not only does he like a bit of quick fit action, he also runs a website devoted to his auto erotic pastime, and claims to be in touch with about 500 other crankshaft fanatics.

Chris’s site appears to be here. We hope he’s got extra bandwidth lined up, as no doubt it will soon be overloaded with other vehicle lovers hoping to stage the ultimate car key party.

A quick cruise of the web uncovers extensive evidence of this major contributor to global warming. Here on YouTube a woman pleasures an automobile, while here fans discuss strategies to ease the pain of tailpipe action.

Being asked if you want a good hand wax and polish will never be the same.
