Most Expensive Ice Cream Sundae and Pizza

The most expensive ice cream sundae in the world is called the “Grand Opulence” Sunday and was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Manhattan restaurant Serendipity 3. Serendipity 3 celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2004 and decided to create the world’s most expensive ice cream sundae as a publicity stunt. They were later recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as having accomplished their goal – at $1,000 the most expensive item on their menu became the official recorder holder as the most expensive ice cream sundae in the world!

Serendipity describes the Golden Opulence Sundae as follows: “5 scoops of the richest Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream infused with Madagascar vanilla and covered in 23K edible gold leaf, the sundae is drizzled with the world’s most expensive chocolate, Amedei Porceleana, and covered with chunks of rare Chuao chocolate, which is from cocoa beans harvested by the Caribbean Sea on Venezuela’s coast. The masterpiece is suffused with exotic candied fruits from Paris, gold dragets, truffles and Marzipan Cherries. It is topped with a tiny glass bowl of Grand Passion Caviar, an exclusive dessert caviar, made of salt-free American Golden caviar, known for its sparkling golden color. It’s sweetened and infused with fresh passion fruit, orange and Armagnac.

The sundae is served in a baccarat Harcourt crystal goblet with an 18K gold spoon to partake in the indulgence, served with a petite mother of pearl spoon and topped with a gilded sugar flower by Ron Ben-Israel. How many customers have been willing to spend the $1,000 that this sundae costs? The founders admit it’s an outrageous price tag, but they say it has “snob appeal”. It has been popular enough since its introduction that they still serve it today, and recently the 15th Golden Opulence Sundae sold was ordered in advance for someone’s Sweet 16 birthday party. If you want to try it yourself, be sure to call ahead, as it takes a few days to prepare!

Meet the $1,000 pizza…

A New York restaurateur has cooked up the most world’s most extravagant pizza — a $1,000 pizza topped with six sorts of caviar and fresh lobster.

Nino Selimaj, who runs six pizza restaurants in New York, on Wednesday unveiled his Luxury Pizza, a 12 inch (30 cms), thin crust topped with caviar, lobster, creme fraiche and chives. Cut into eight, it works out at $125 a slice.

“I know this won’t be for everyone but there are people in New York who can afford it and once tried, they’ll be back for more. It is delicious,” said Selimaj, who moved to New York from Albania about 29 years ago.

“Sure, some people will say it is just a publicity stunt but I have researched this for over a year and think there is a demand. I have already sold one.”

Selimaj said his restaurant Nino’s Bellissima, which is the only one of his restaurants to offer the Luxury Pizza, needs 24 hours notice for the gourmet dish as it orders the caviar in advance.

“But where better to experiment with pizza than in New York where people love their pizza,” he said.

I give " Dancing with the Stars" 1.5 legs….

Heather Mills McCartney, estranged wife of former Beatle Paul McCartney, wants to talk about dancing, not divorce.

The 39-year-old former model, in the middle of a bitter divorce battle with the pop legend, sets off shortly for the United States to compete in ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” a decision that raised eyebrows given that she has an artificial leg.

In an interview to promote the show, Mills rebuffed suggestions that she was in the televised dance competition only for the publicity, and joked about the prospect of flying limbs.

“If I was worried about critics, then I wouldn’t do anything in my life, because this is the first thing I’ve done for 10 months and I’ve been chased and hounded for 10 months and told that I’m a publicity seeker,” she told Reuters in the interview.

“Yes, I’ve got an artificial leg, yes, I’m going to dance, yes, I’m going to do the best I can, and hopefully it will inspire people,” she said in Brighton, southern England.

“It won’t come off. As much as everyone would love it to go flying, I’m sure it’s not going to come off.”

She said Jonathan Roberts, her professional dance partner on the show, initially had misgivings.

“I think when Jonathan first met me it was: ‘Oh my god, it’s her, and she’s got one leg.”‘

But by the fifth or sixth day of practicing together, he quickly forgot about her artificial limb, Mills added.

“The main focus for me is the message I want to send out: you can overcome any disability and just do whatever you want to do if you set your mind to it.” Mills had her left leg amputated below the knee after being hit by a motorcycle in 1993.

Mills declined to talk in detail about her divorce from McCartney, which has been the subject of intense media speculation since proceedings began in July.

She did say that her negative image in the media was damaging her charity work, which includes campaigning for children, animal rights and the banning of landmines.

Eco-warrior Trudie prefers helicopter to an 80-mile train ride

Trudie Styler: One rule for her, and another for the rest of us

It’s one rule for them, and another for the rest of us.

Trudie Styler, wife of Sting and self-styled eco-warrior, recently took a helicopter to travel 80 miles from Wiltshire to Devon, a journey that would have taken less than two hours by train.

The actress and film producer is forever harping on about saving the environment, having set up the Rainforest Campaign in the late 1980s with her pop star husband.

The Stings are known for eating only organic food, supposedly grown on their land, although one member of staff recently admitted to serving up nonorganic salad from the supermarket.

So what was Styler thinking as she clambered into her gas-guzzling chopper, off to stay with friend and fellow greenie Zac Goldsmith on his organic farm in Devon?

Her own home, Lake House, a Jacobean manor in the Avon Valley, is conveniently located just six miles out of Salisbury, from where frequent trains run to the West Country.

On Monday David Cameron announced plans to crackdown on domestic flights by slapping a green tax on them, so perhaps Styler is enjoying the luxury of a private helicopter while she can get away with it.

But this isn’t the first time the Stings have been caught out. In 2000 the couple threatened the Ministry of Defence with legal action if a nearby airfield were to be expanded.

It later emerged Sting had twice used the airfield in question from which to roar off in his private jet.

Styler’s personal assistant declined to comment on her boss’s travel arrangements when called.

GRINDHOUSE headed for NC-17

THE people who dole out ratings at the Motion Picture Assn. of America just might flip out when they see “Grindhouse,” Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez‘s tribute to the ultraviolent, nudity-drenched pictures that once screened ’round the clock in the grungy movie palaces of 42nd Street.

The Weinstein Company, which is releasing the picture April 6 through its Dimension Films arm, needs an R rating for the flick to get into mainstream theaters. But, “some of it is so graphic and outrageous for a major Hollywood studio, there’s no question it’s headed for an NC-17 without big cuts,” says a Page Six operative, who got a sneak peek at the most over-the-top footage.

“Grindhouse” is actually two short movies – one directed by Tarantino, the other by Rodriguez – with an intermission between them. During the break, a series of fake trailers will be shown for such fictitious titles as “Werewolf Women of the SS,” directed by Rob Zombie.

“In one scene, a cute, topless girl is roughly tied down on a table by evil female Nazi experimenters who begin draining her blood and, as she screams in agony, they brand her like livestock with a coal-hot steel swastika,” our source said. “And every girl in the Nazi concentration camp is topless.”

Another trailer, directed by Eli Roth, of “Hostel” fame, is called “Thanksgiving,” in which a town’s celebration of Turkey Day is interrupted by a mad slasher.

“There’s a part where Jordan Ladd [daughter of Cheryl Ladd of ‘Charlie’s Angels’] is in a car with her boyfriend and giving him [oral sex] when she lovingly reaches to stroke his hair and discovers his neck is just a bloody stump – some maniac had just cut off his head while she was in the act.”

Later, a frisky cheerleader climbs onto a trampoline and begins stripping naked as she jumps up and down until she does a split and her skirt blows up without panties underneath. “You get the full ‘Britney Spears-getting-out-of-the-limo view,’ ” our source says. Another jolting scene shows a grossly obese man chewing on a baby.

How much of these moviegoers will end up seeing is anybody’s guess. “Some cuts definitely will have to be made. There’s no question,” conceded one studio insider. A Dimension rep declined comment.
